This Deere was found in a private museum in North Dakota. The museum was closed to the public in 1981, and the will of the owner has always been that all of the contents of the museum sell at auction. We try to buy interesting items when we see them, and we often must speculate.  If we hesitate someone else will buy them.  This was the case with this early Mills cabinet.  Now, we will leave it up to you to identify it.

We have comments from at least a couple of people about the origin of this machine.  One person believes that he saw this machine in operation a number of years ago in the area where we purchased it, and he believes that it had a fortune teller figure in it.  This is the reason that we have decided to give detailed pictures of the machine.

The measurements for the cabinet are 82" x 24 1/2" x 18".  The grille in the glass indicates that there was once a speaking figure in it.  Also, there is a hole that could have been for the fortune teller mechanism in the back of the cabinet.  The shallow depth of the cabinet would be appropriate for a half-size fortune teller figure.  The phonograph could perhaps indicate that it once contained a speaking figure.  The name plate is Mills.  The jester at the top of the machine is part of the lighting fixture, and it is made of papier mache.  Could this be one of one?  Let us know at the auction.
