I have a gasoline JD4020 that I use to mow horse pastures. It runs fine for the first 1-1/2 hours before it starts chugging and losing power, as if I’m mowing overly tall grass. We changed the air and oil filters, and it has a new radiator and muffler. Usually, it dies and will not restart. One time, it didn’t die right away — it was not able to move, but kept chugging and coughing for a long time. One time I was able to restart by giving it a lot of choke, but normally I have to wait until the next day before it will run again. It is not overheated. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Sounds like a fuel problem-filter vacuum in tank, pump, boiling in carb, water\dirt in carb. good luck

Thanks for the suggestions! We started working on it again this morning and discovered that the rotor is cracked in two places. Before we bought it from the JD dealer, someone taped the rotor cracks with black electrician’s tape!!! Now, the tape has worn out. I sure hope this turns out to be the fix. Thanks, again!
